Switch Fabric Board The Switch Fabric Boards (SFBs) create a highly scalable and resilient “all-active” centralized switch fabric that delivers up to 4 Tbps of full-duplex switching capacity to each MPC slot in an MX2000 router.
Control Board and Routing Engine Dual redundant Control Board and Routing Engines (CB-REs) run the 64-bit Junos OS and manage routing protocol processing, router interface control, and control plane functions. They interact with the Packet Forwarding Engine (PFE) on Modular Port Concentrators (MPCs) via high-bandwidth management channels.
Power The MX2000 power and thermal subsystems optimize power efficiency without sacrificing scale or features. It supports full power supply and cable feed redundancy with -48 V DC or AC power (in Delta or Wye 3-phase configuration), HVDC, and HVAC power.
Modular Port Concentrators (MPCs) MPCs provide comprehensive routing, switching, inline services, subscriber management, and advanced hierarchical quality of service (HQoS). The MPC11E, powered by the Trio 5 chipset, delivers 4 Tbps per slot and supports 400GbE-ready ports with multi-rate QSFP56DD interfaces. It offers native MACsec support without performance impact.
Junos Operating System Junos is a modular network operating system supported across all Juniper Networks platforms, reducing the cost and complexity of network maintenance. It offers secure programming interfaces, versatile scripting support, and integration with popular orchestration frameworks.
Industry-Leading Scale, Capacity, and Density The MX2000 line offers extremely high capacity with up to 4 Tbps per slot, providing industry-leading 100GbE and 400GbE port density. The MPC11E line card enables dense 100GbE aggregation with Flex licensing for flexible feature deployment.
Unmatched Network Availability The MX2000 line supports N+1 fabric redundancy, control plane redundancy, N+N power feed redundancy, and N+1 power supply module redundancy. Junos OS ensures that each program runs independently in its own protected memory space, supporting non-disruptive OS upgrades and hardware additions.
Embedded Element-Layer Analytics The programmable Trio chipsets monitor and collect data at the component level, streaming it via the Junos Telemetry Interface for use in monitoring, analytics, and performance management applications, as well as in Path Computation Elements like the Juniper Networks NorthStar Controller.
Integrated Network Edge Services MX2000 routers host Network Edge Services directly without impacting routing or forwarding performance, streamlining operations and reducing TCO by consolidating service-specific appliances. Juniper’s Network Edge Services include Junos Subscriber Aware, Junos Application Aware, and more.
Outstanding Power Design and Efficiency The MX2000 line achieves a power-to-throughput efficiency ratio of 0.25W/GbE, consuming just 0.25W to forward 1 GB of traffic. Power is dynamically managed based on actual hardware configuration and temperature monitoring, optimizing operational savings.
Service Provider Applications The MX2000 line addresses a broad set of service provider applications, including Broadband Edge, Business Edge, IP Core, Metro Ethernet, Universal SDN Gateway, and Service Control Gateway. It supports advanced features such as high-density 400GbE interfaces, inline video monitoring, and L2/L3 VPN services.
